I have a fear of the ocean. Really though, I have a fear of what is in the ocean. Every time I watch a TV show like Blue Planet, I am completely horrified by the creatures that exist. One creature was basically a tube with teeth and it hid under the ocean floor. It had no eyes and its sole purpose was to surprise prey and devour them. It’s those creatures that have me wondering why I would ever go in the ocean. I love the beach. I love swimming. But I do not want to swim in a body of water where large predator fish roam. But when I was a kid, I would swim in what’s called a blue hole. This one, in particular, could not sustain any life. So I could swim without fear of being attacked by something lurking beneath.
I know many people including myself, that are scared of heights. But what if there was something like the blue hole I found that could give me the ability to fly without jumping out of a plane at 10 to 20 thousand feet in the air? Well, I have found such a place.
The iFLY company did not compensate me in any way for this review. The opinions of my experience at iFLY are all my own.
Last year, my wife gave us all an early Christmas present by taking the whole family to iFLY. It’s an indoor skydiving experience. We weren’t really sure what to expect. But right off the bat, I wasn’t worried about my family’s safety. I knew it would be a controlled environment with professionals helping us along the way.
When we arrived, we checked in and entered our info at the kiosks. Then we headed over to the flight deck viewing area so we could watch other people flying. That’s when reality sunk in with my kids that they were about to fly for the first time.

After watching people skydive for a while, we were called into a room for flight training. A certified flight instructor explained to us the safety precautions and how to have the proper body position for flying. It is loud in the wind tunnel, so he explained to us that we would be using hand signals.
Once we geared up, I asked the instructor if I would have the sensation of falling. He said that doesn’t happen at all. We were relieved and even more excited to start flying.
I told our kids that they were going to fly like superheroes.
You can tell my wife was loving it!
One by one, we all took turns in the wind tunnel and had the experience of flying without any fear. It was pretty amazing! Everyone had a smile on their face after our first round of flying. Our second round would include the high flight option which gives you the ability to fly higher and faster. That took the experience to a whole new level!
That’s me in pure bliss with my giant stache from Movember.
Now he is the cutest thing ever with the Superman outfit.
After the session, we each received a personalized flight certificate, pictures and even videos of our experience.
When you experience new things with your family, skydiving might not be on the list based on safety reasons. But with iFLY, you can skydive and know you’re safe. Needless to say, we loved every minute of it.
A couple great things we found on their website is that they have a flight school and they also have a way for people with special needs to experience skydiving. Now that is awesome!
