Several years ago I came across a recipe that was supposed to be a secret. I know you’re not supposed to keep secrets and especially ones you can eat. But this secret creamy white chicken chili recipe should be shared with everyone because it is quite frankly one of the best chili recipes ever! I’ve even won a chili cook-off or two with this amazing recipe.
It’s very versatile as well. You can add some cheese and eat it with tortilla chips or you can exclude the chicken if it isn’t your thing. But it has a rich creamy base that sends my taste buds into heavenly places.
So after giving you this recipe, you can’t say I’ve never shared a secret.
Here’s what you will need to make about 8 servings:
- 1 pound of chicken breasts
- 1/4 chopped onion
- 1 ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 TBS vegetable oil
- (2) 15 ½ oz. cans of great northern beans
- (1) 14 ½ oz. chicken broth
- (1) 4oz. can of chopped green chilies
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- (1) 8oz. cup sour cream
- ½ cup (4oz.) whipping cream
Cut chicken into 1-inch cubes.
Put chicken, garlic powder and oil in a large saucepan and cook until chicken has no pink in it.
Rinse and drain beans and the green chilies.
Then add beans, broth, chilies, onions and seasonings and bring to boil.
Reduce heat and let simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in sour cream and whipping cream.
My kids aren’t big chili fans, but they loved this!
