This is part two of our epic northeast road trip!

Check out part one here!

Part two of our trip continued in New York City.  After our awesome time at the today show, we headed out to see St. Patrick’s Cathedral.  We knew our kids would be amazed at how beautiful the church was inside and out.  And the beautiful St. Patrick’s did not disappoint!

Then we headed over to the 9/1 1 memorial.  We told the kids what happened on that day and that the memorial was built to honor the victims.  They were taken back by the sight of it all.Our next stop was the Statue of Liberty.  But after a lot of walking, we decided to take a rest at Battery Park. Some pretty hilarious things that happened!  My wife was dared by my kids to climb through the hole in her chair.  She ended up getting stuck.  I had a decision to make.  Either I could help my wife or keep filming.  I actually thought I had turned the camera off to help her, but I was laughing so hard while I was filming that I never turned it off as you’ll see in the video below.

Truett was putting on his lady charm but had a leaf stuck in his hair the whole time.

Everyone was excited to head out on the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty or as Liam calls her, Lady Liberty.  As a side note, the weather was perfect.  This made everything so much easier.

There was more we wanted to do as this was our last day in NYC.  We never bothered with Uber or taxi service.  The subway was our go to transportation.  The kids thought the subway was so cool.  My son loved sporting the peace sign.
What’s New York without pizza?  John’s Pizzeria has some of the best in New York!  The location in Times Square was converted from an old church.
Our next stop was Central Park.  The kids took a photo opp at the Bethesda Terrace fountain. One of our favorite things was renting boats from the Loeb Boathouse at Central Park lake.  The kids only let us row for so long until they took over.

I ended up telling the kids a scary story about some creature that lives in the lake.

See that lady with the bun in her hair?  That’s Rebel Wilson.  She was filming a movie called “Isn’t It Romantic”  That was very cool!As our stay in New York came to an end, with all of the sights and amazing things to do, my kids enjoyed doing one of the simple things in life.  Lindsey found some lightning bugs flying around.Everything we did in New York was in the span of a day and a half.  Isn’t that crazy?  Lindsey knows how to get a lot of fun out of a short amount of time.

We were halfway through our epic northeast road trip.

The next morning, we headed off to Washington, D.C. with a pitstop in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia.

Independence Hall was first on the list.  It is the building where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.

This is where Abraham Lincoln stood.  Awesome! We took the tour inside to learn about all of the history in this amazing building.

After leaving Independence Hall, we headed over to the Independence Visitor Center to take a picre with Benjamin Franklin.

My kids even got to take a pic with the one and only, Rocky Balboa.  They didn’t know who he was.  I said “I’ll show you the movies when we get home, now give me your mean face!”Don’t forget to check out the Liberty Bell. Our stop in the city of brotherly love was topped off with none other than a Sonny’s Philly cheesesteak.  My gosh, it was good!

Washington, D.C. was calling our name, so off we went.  If you’ve ever been to D.C., you know there is plenty of things to do so no time to waste.  The one thing you can see as soon as you get into D.C. is the  Washington Monument.  It was much larger than we expected. We only had so much daylight so we wanted to walk the National Mall which holds many of the monuments and memorials that D.C. is known for.  The one my kids loved the most was the Lincoln Memorial.

Just before it got dark, we were able to take in the World War 2 Memorial.

At the end of the day, my family was so tired that they couldn’t stand anymore.  Actually, it’s pretty common to see people laying on the ground near the Washington Monument so they can look straight up to the top.On the way back to the van, we had a glimpse in the distance of what was to come tomorrow, the White House.

Do you have any great stories about Philadelphia or Washington, D.C.?
