I love to scare my kids! What dad doesn’t? I have eagerly waited for them to get to the age where I can scare them, and they won’t be scarred for life. A while back, when we were in New York riding the boats in Central Park, my daughter said: “tell me a scary story!” And so I told her that it all started with a former hockey player who lived in a lake. I didn’t get all the details right, but let’s just say that she knows who Jason Voorhees is now. I couldn’t help myself.

There is a great theme park close to where we live called Frontier City. And they are upping the ante each year on their Fright Fest for Halloween season. It was all fun and games at first, but it got scarier as the day went on.
You have to start off with rides to warm the kids up. You know, let them think it’s just another typical day at a theme park.
Our friends came along as well which made the experience better.
One of our favorite coasters is the Steel Lasso. It’s so smooth that even the kids ride it.
I think Truett actually looked scared. He wasn’t having anything to do with Halloween.
When you go to Frontier City, you have to ride the Pirate Ship. I’ve been riding this thing since I was a kid.
After a few rides, we got good spots for the Monster Dance. It was quite the show.
Then shortly after that, the parade started. My kids wanted to be front and center. They said it was scary, but not too scary. Here is a really cool option for the kids who don’t want to be scared:
From Frontier City’s website –
The monsters will emerge at 6:00p each evening, giving plenty of time to enjoy the park during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.
Looking to have a fright-free experience after dark? Purchase an Invisi-Scare Necklace to make yourself “invisible” to the monsters on the main pathways in the park! Wearing this necklace reduces the likelihood of being scared by monsters. It does not work within haunted attractions.
Along with the parade and dance party, there was a host of other shows to see. Other presentations included Magic of the Night, Dead Man’s Party, Hal and Scream Dance Party Extreme and the Freak Show Deluxe. Check out more on their website here.
It began to get dark, so we took the kids to the least scariest of the four haunted attractions. The kids did pretty well. They were a little scared, but when all was said and done, we could tell they had fun.
Maybe when they are little older, we can hit some of the scarier attractions, but for now, it’s just child’s play.
